How loved ones and carers can prepare, join in and support progress during visits in Worcestershire and Herefordshire

Deciding to arrange a home physio visit is often a big, positive step for families. Many adult children and carers ask what they can do to help the sessions be as effective as possible.
Preparation makes a real difference:
• Clear a comfortable space in the living room.
• Have a short list of questions ready, such as “What can we do between visits?” or “How can I assist safely?”
• Plan to stay for at least part of the first session so you can see techniques and ask questions directly.
Your presence during visits provides reassurance and lets you learn practical ways to help. Between sessions, gentle reminders and genuine praise help new habits stick.
Research on family-assisted and home-based therapy shows faster progress, higher satisfaction, and better long-term outcomes when carers are actively involved. NICE NG249 encourages involving families in rehabilitation discussions and support.
We aim to make the whole process as straightforward and supportive as possible for your family.
